Christmas
By: Lynda Franca
Christmas is a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, but is also celebrated by non-christians. It is observed on the 25th of December by giving and receiving gifts, as well as family or other social gatherings, feasting, and symbolic decorations. Some Christmas traditions include caroling, hanging wreaths or lights, and Christmas trees. Christmas also has an unchanging character, Santa Claus, also known as St. Nicholas. Santa Claus rides around on his sleigh driven by magic reindeer giving special gifts to all the good children of the world. These are all different ways people celebrate Christmas and keep the holiday spirit alive.
Hanukkah

Holidays are just around the corner. One widely celebrated holiday is Hanukkah. Hanukkah is an eight day Jewish holiday. This year Hanukkah will begin the evening of December 12th and will end the evening of December 20th. Hanukkah is celebrated to remember the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt. The holiday is observed with a nine-branched menorah. One light is added each night for eight nights. The ninth light is usually different from the rest and is called a Shamash. It is also known as the Festival of Lights or the Feast of Dedication. Happy Hanukkah!
