At the time of recording the album , I was then in a relationship with a guy who lived with two women which I was the other woman & so I went & wrote down exactly how I felt only to find Trademark in studio playing the beat so i just jumped on it & that ' s how Valelisa was born , says Zinhle ”

The fickleness of the music industry in Mzansi leads most artists into the trap of getting exploited more often when they become famous , but she keeps herself grounded in the music industry stating “ Having the right people as your team helps a lot . My manager advises me on how to save which I never did before ; he teaches me the business side of things & how to grow myself into a brand . Having a small circle of friends also helps because I ' m always busy I barely get time to do other things besides work ”.
Growing up , Her fondest musical memories in her childhood started when everyone around her believed and encouraged her often telling her she has a talent and she can sing , so people used to ask her to sing for them for money . “ I remember Christmas days neighbours knocking with coins in the or hands asking me to come sing for them & their friends , says Zinhle . Asking her about her future plans as an artist , she revealed growing the brand ' Zinhle Ngidi ' & opening her own label to help groom others like her . Apart from her music world , she is also a proud mother and likes spending more time as she can with her daughter .
A challenge she faced was letting people know who Zinhle Ngidi is without being just a vocalist that sang ' Shumaya '. She also gets called Dj Zinhle a lot ... though she ' s flattered by that rather than being challenged by it . Her advice to the upcoming artists is that “ Surround yourself with people that have your best interests at heart . Always find ways to develop your craft , learn the business side of music & do music if you passionate about it not for fame or money so that you are always relevant & consistent ” Says Zinhle .
