Rushing through it
This should be the trip of
your life , so why not take the time for it ? Nobody wants to rush to a hostel , plane , next hostel , bus , and to a hostel again . You will not be able to even get to know new people or settle down for a second . Of course , there are some excuses for this , like you were finally able to get a few weeks off work at home . Still , be aware that some countries are huge ! Research on what the average traveling time is for each country and make a list with the sights you definitely want to see first .

It ’ s the climb
You will most likely explore the most beautiful and secret places by foot . These hikes can be very long , so you should be prepared for the next coming hours . Some hike essentials are : ( raining ) jacket , sunscreen , blister plaster , hat and / or sunglasses , food , navigation , good waterproof hiking shoes , and last but definitely not least : water , water , water ! Take a hydration pack , or some extra water bottles with you .

No insurance
This might be the most boring , but maybe one of the most important one ! I have once met someone in Australia who didn ’ t have an insurance at all , while it is so important to have a good insurance whenever you go abroad . Make sure your bag and its contents are insured against theft , damage and loss , when you get sick or have an accident , or whenever something gets cancelled . Or maybe the thing you don ’ t even want to think about : when you have to return home due to the death of a family member . Do your research ; it is good to know how long you are going to travel , how often , where you are going and whether you want to work or not .
