LOCAL LIFE

BLACKTOWN’ S FINEST... Vale Chris Quilkey-

Blacktown is mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant and community advocate, with the passing of Chris Quilkey a man remembered for his integrity, commitment and unwavering focus on improving the lives of local residents.
Chris’ s contribution to the Blacktown district was both significant and enduring. First elected to Blacktown City Council in 2016, he served two terms and became a respected figure within local government. During his time on council, he held the role of deputy mayor and, at a critical time for the city, stepped into the position of acting mayor following the passing of

His work was grounded in the everyday needs of residents whether advocating for improved infrastructure, better local services, or something as simple but impactful

Before entering local government, Chris built a strong career in the New South Wales public sector. He worked in policy and legislative roles across key departments including Corrective Services NSW, the Crown Solicitor’ s Office and the Attorney-General’ s Department. This experience shaped his understanding of governance and gave him the tools to navigate complex issues, always with a focus on achieving tangible results.

Fellow councillor Moninder Singh, who was elected alongside Chris in 2016, remembered him as the backbone of their campaigns.“ He was the one doing the corflutes and meeting everyone,” Mr Singh said a reflection of Chris’ s hands-on
