Grasping
If you were to stroke the palm of a babies' hand, she or he would automatically curl their fingers around your finger, and this goes the same with their toes. Being a reflex, this is an involuntary action that the baby cannot control. The grasping reflex gradually fades over approximately 2 months, until at about 4 months, when a baby is able to voluntarily grasp objects. Grasping becomes more voluntary with age, as the child gains more control over their movements.
Crying
Newborn humans possess various innate behaviours, which are completed automatically once initiated. Infants 'just know' how to cry, and often utilize it as a means of communicating. If they are hungry, sleepy, uncomfortable, unwell or lonely; crying provides away of communicating their needs.
