BIKERS CLUB DECEMBER 2019 ISSUE | Page 58

ISSUE 12 | DECEMBER 2019 My heart broke into pieces somewhere and I felt so suffocated that I couldn't do anything for them. I couldn't breath anymore seeing their situation and thinking about how much they are compromising with their dreams and were dominated. Men of their family can't see and understand that they too have some desires. I came out of their home. They all were looking at me when I was wearing my riding gears. I intentionally didn't wear my helmet, started my bike, waved good bye to them and left the village with deep morose. I was really depressed and numbed after seeing that scene. On the way I stopped in a mechanic shop. While talking to the owner of the shop, he told about himself and that he was retired 'Navy Officer' and travelled all over India. I told him about what I saw and observed in "Rann of Kutch" village and said why do you people not do something for these ladies as I thought he must be a broad minded person. BIKERS CLUB ® | MAGAZINE | PAGE 58 The reply that he gave me left me stunned. He said that "this is their culture... betiya humari maryada hai aur bete shaan." Moreover he said that if girls started going to school or outside their home then rape will happen and they will indulge in bad habits and practices. But this way there are less cases of rapes in their place compare to rest of India. I replied to that, how, I am educated and travelling outside that means according to you guys I am bad? And if girls go outside and rape happens then why don't they keep boys at home? He replied that this is their culture. I had no words left to say. After observing his narrow thinking I could only feel pity for the ladies of 'Kutch.' The place where maximum tourists go every year, but the situation of women and girls are still in a backward state despite of the place being so famous. I was feeling so suffocated that I fell sick. I left the place in deep morose.
