Tack & Equipment
• Best practice in mounting a young, fresh or challenging horse safely with assistance or unaided
• How horses learn and that individuals may require adaptations in their training
• The need to effectively time positive( rewards) and negative( pressure and release) reinforcement in training
• How to ride intelligently and with due regard and support for others riding young, inexperienced horses or those presenting behavioural challenges
• Types of surfaces, going and the environmental conditions that present different challenges to horse and rider
• The wide range of specialist tack, equipment and headgear available for use as training aids including bits, draw reins, breast girth, martingales, exercise bandages, boots, nosebands, blinkers, visor, hood, ear plugs, tongue tie
• The consequences of not establishing and maintaining an appropriate and consistent pace when leading
• How to improve horses and establish consistent way of going ensure the horse is optimising effort and engagement
• Understand that there are variations in speed within paces
• How to ride horses safely at speed to maximise training and performance
• How to support and guide other riders to maximise training and performance
• How to assess and describe fitness levels to give feedback on physical and behavioural traits
