My name is Ben Hicks . I am 26 years old . Prior to working in racing I completed a two year BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in photography , art and design at Brockenhurst College . On leaving College I started working full time in a Racing Yard . I first gained my Amateur jockey licence and then my Conditional licence ( four years ). During the Lockdown period , when Racing was on hold , I reflected on my career which ultimately led me to decide I wished to utilise the knowledge and media qualifications gained to apply myself within a new sector of the racing industry . The Development Programme the BHA offers is a great opportunity to launch myself into a fulfilling role , whilst maintaining a connection with the Horse Racing industry . Having enjoyed statistical analysis as a hobby , I look forward to using this within a professional environment . The opportunity to broaden my knowledge alongside an expanding company is an exciting prospect that I am eager to embrace .

I am 23 years old and have recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh studying BSc ( Hons ) Applied Sport Science . Originally from Shropshire , I have been fortunate to grow up around horses being engaged in many disciplines from a young age through the Pony Club . My degree and participation in a variety of sports at university from grassroots to university representation at BUCS level has fueled my passion for being involved in the racing industry . Volunteering on the university Equestrian Club committee for the past two years has provided me with confidence and skills to pursue a career within British racing . I am excited to acquire in-depth knowledge of the industry and have the opportunity to put the theory to practice , learning on the job .
