Tom Carus - Great British Racing

I applied for the British Horseracing Development Programme as I have been surrounded by horses from a young age and have always been fascinated with the horseracing industry . I ’ m keen to learn how the industry works and how I can apply my past experiences to the programme . From how the horses are trained to the excitement of race days , the horseracing industry has so much to offer . Having worked in marketing since graduating university , alongside travelling , I ’ m looking forward to helping increase awareness of the sport and helping to grow the sport ’ s fan base . My ambitions for the future are to make a meaningful impact on the racing industry while gaining as much experience and exposure as possible . I ’ m excited to see what the future holds and where the programme takes me .

Applying for the programme opened a new door for me , allowing a route to work within the more ‘ behind the scenes ’ aspect of racing . With my placement being at Weatherbys Operational Team , working on the roll-out of the Racing Digital product , I ’ m intrigued to explore a new avenue of the industry . It is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the leading upgrade for British horseracing ’ s administrative systems . I ’ m an increasingly ambitious person , continually endeavouring to develop my knowledge and experience in various aspects of the racing industry . Following the completion of the programme , I ’ m keen to gain international experience and possibly venture into the world of bloodstock . I aspire to apply for the Godolphin Flying Start Programme within a few years ’ time . Until then , I ’ m eager to network , increasing my industry contacts , to learn from their experience and wisdom . I ’ m passionate about developing racing in a more positive light , from the view of the general public - quite possibly our largest stakeholder , and with all media being easily accessible these days , it is important to strive for an encouraging reflection .
