Since I was a child , horses have been a passion of mine , and I have been privileged to work on a National Hunt yard for the past four years . Since finishing a degree in International Horseracing Business at Hartpury University in 2023 , the development programme has seemed the perfect stepping stone for me to prosper my passion into a career . I hope that the placement within Industry , People and Development will be the perfect place for me to increase my skill set and create ideas from my experiences on how best to make the industry a fulfilling , attractive , safe and enjoyable place to work in . I think it is key that this is recognised for the benefit of the sport , as the industry could not operate without staff . It is fundamental that we encourage staff retention and new individuals into the industry . I ’ m excited about this placement because I think my previous experiences working within the industry will be invaluable and I hope to make a positive contribution to the department as well as to the future success and longevity of the industry .

Having grown up with both parents in the industry , racing has always been a part of my life . However , it wasn ’ t until I started working at York Racecourse over the last two years that my own passion for the sport truly took hold . Working in the paddock with the Information and Sponsorship team at York granted me a close glimpse into the action and it has proven to be addictive !
I ’ m so delighted to be accepted onto to the Development Programme for this year and can ’ t wait to further develop my knowledge of the industry beyond my raceday experience at the induction at Newmarket in July . Being a horse enthusiast , I ’ m especially excited to learn about bloodstock and thoroughbred pedigree .
While I have yet to discover which specific avenue of the racing industry would best suit my skill set , I am really passionate about promoting such a historic and culturally rich sport to future generations . careersinracing . com
