Working within the sports industry has been a goal of mine since I was very young , so applying to this programme really was a no-brainer . Whilst sport has been engrained within my life for as long as I have been alive , I ’ m not from a horseracing background . However , I thoroughly love and appreciate the suspense and drama that is present in one of the UK ’ s biggest sports ! Having been to racing meets from Aintree and Haydock all the way down to Sandown Park , I ’ m intrigued to get stuck in and learn the ins and outs of the business of racing . I want to develop myself within the sports industry , whether that be from working behind the scenes or getting stuck in within the operations , and I believe there is no better place to start this journey then on the Development Programme . Having recently finished a master ’ s in international business and management , I ’ m keen to develop horseracing to the next level , increasing its awareness to a broader fan base from all over the world !

I have recently graduated from the University of Reading with a degree in History and International Relations and am now eager to pursue a career in the horseracing industry . My background with horses , having competed in a number of disciplines for many years , coupled with my time spent growing up around the racing town of Malton , has fuelled my passion for racing . When I heard about the British Horseracing Development Programme , I was excited about the opportunity to develop a passion into a career and am delighted to have been offered a position on the BHA Raceday Regulations placement . I am also excited to attend the introductory course in Newmarket – an amazing opportunity to learn about the wider industry . During my time on the Development Programme , I ’ m thoroughly looking forward to contributing to the BHA ’ s efforts to secure racing for future generations , namely by focussing on improving equine welfare across raceday events . Finally , I ’ m looking forward to experiencing the development of racing over the coming years and helping to overcome the challenges it faces .
