Ash Symonds – Racing Post
My initial interest for the British Horseracing Development Programme began when one of my racing friends told me about the scheme in early 2023 . I thought that it should be something to explore once I graduate from university as I had heard great things . I ’ m excited to learn more about the intricacies of the racing industry , notably in the areas of journalism and media that I haven ’ t yet explored .
I hope that the new things that I ’ ll learn during this programme will be applied to the working world in the horse racing industry , though working with a racehorse training yard is another avenue that I ’ m interested in for the future .
I think racing has a product that can attract many new faces , so with a bit of transparency and self-promotion , I hope this is something we can achieve .

Although I have recently finished studying a degree in Drama at the University of Chester , my lifelong passion has been for horseracing . My father has always been a member at Cheltenham Racecourse and I ’ ve been privileged to go racing there for as long as I can remember . As well as watching racing , I ’ ve also been fortunate to have ridden in a few Pointto-Points . I ’ ve been planning on applying for the Development Programme for a number of years so I ’ m incredibly excited to begin the course and further develop my knowledge of the racing industry . With British racing facing a number of challenges at this moment in time , I look forward to learning about the efforts that are being made to help secure the sport ’ s finances as well as develop the most competitive racing product possible . I am determined to build a career that will allow me to play an active role in developing a successful future for the sport and maintaining its position at the forefront of the global racing community . careersinracing . com
