Phases of the Oreo…oops! I mean - The Moon
Tiara Mirchandani, Year 4
Oreos and IPC have never connected until the 26th of
March. The Year 4s made the phases of the moon using
Oreo cookies. They did this activity because Mr Steven
and Ms Eci wanted the Year 4s to learn about the
phases of the moon.
They brought their own Oreo so they can enjoy biting
the cream of to make the phases of the moon. After they
were done placing the Oreo on a paper that Ms Eci
printed, they glued the Oreos to the paper. Then they
sketched the moons then coloured in. On the way, they
found out the phases of the moon are New Moon,
Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full
Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter and Waning
Crescent.
With this activity, students learn and have fun at the
same time. It makes it easier for them to remember the
phases of the moon as they get to experience shaping
moons according to their phases.
“The oreo activity was awesome!” said Defi, a Year 4
student. ‘Phases of the moon’ is just one part of Year
4’s immense topic – Our Solar System.
