Year 5’s World Cup Unit Trudy Widjaja, Year 5 The World Cup is so much fun to watch but is it as much fun to learn it? The year 5s had learned that the Venn diagram is used to compare two kinds of objects, things, countries, and many more. Wanting to know more about their world cup host country, they decided to make a photo Venn diagram comparing Indonesia and Brazil - Same as a normal Venn diagram, only with pictures. They learned that Brazil and Indonesia have alot in common. For example, Brazil has alot of slums like Indonesia, only they call them favelas. In Bahasa, they chose one of the countries representing in the World Cup and made posters to cheer the teams up. They included the team’s slogan and they did the posters in a website called www.postermywall.com. An amazing goalkeeper, Rishi, said: “I’m cheering for Cameroon because they are going to win !” We Are One Simran Mahtani The last IPC Unit for this school year is World Cup 2014, and the whole school is doing it together. In Dance, Year 6 students have been divided into groups to choreograph the World Cup Song ‘We Are One. There is also a group of boys who have included ‘soccer dance steps’. Students get time to choreograph as much of the song as they can and then Ms Antie gives them feedback on how to improve. One of the students, Vivek, mentioned, “ We had a lot of fun thinking up the steps and all in all we had a good time.” The students enjoy this a lot because there’s more to it than just dancing. This bonds the students together and they cherish such moments. This is also a chance for students to show off their dance moves. Yuvika from one of the girl groups said, “I really enjoyed choreographing this song and helping my friends show off their dance moves”. The girls get to do cartwheels or just shake their hips to the music. The talented boys do cartwheels and lots of handstands throughout the song. The Year 6s have been enjoying every second of it, from deciding the steps to actually performing it. Hopefully they will be able to perform their work of art during the World Cup Exit Point. 6
