Photos World Cup Exit Point Zubin Amar, Year 6 Beacon Academy’s World Cup unit ended with a big bang. The semi-finals and finals were played among the groups. Also, many presentations of learning were displayed. The day started off with a school assembly hosted by Mr Tom, the organiser of this whole unit. There, students presented their learning, but not before Mr Mark Thomas and the Year 1s gave Mr Tom a special jersey, a small thought for the huge amount of work put in. Mr Tom then thanked them and the presentations proceeded. Students, such as Conner from Year 8, presented interesting facts about the World Cup. After that, the students had their snacks and they got on the field, ready for a soccer battle. The students began playing, fighting hard to win. And while all that was happening, students were doing their ‘Ole Ole Ola’ dances in between the matches. As students grew tired from playing, they were given a chance to play on the field so they can re-energise. Students went for a brief lunch (nobody wanted to stay away from the field for too long) and came back pumped with energy. More matches were played, each resulting in joy, even though a team didn’t win. While that went on, posters were put up in the Senior Library for parents to view and praise their child’s work. These posters were colourful, fun, bright and filled with knowledge. Video The last match was played and the winners were announced. The field was filled with excitement as the winners stepped up onto the boxes. For Years 1 and 2, Japan claimed the cup of victory. For Years 3 and 4, USA came out victorious. For Years 5 and 6, Columbia beat Portugal with 3 goals to none. And for Years 7 and 8, France competed with Croatia, winning with 5 goals to none. Angie Sutanto, former school captain, stated: “It was fun, challenging and we all tried our very best.” The World Cup ended with an amazing result and everyone had fun! 3
