World Cup Entry Point
Aaryan Amar, Year 6
For the first time since the Olympics in 2012, Beacon Academy is carrying out a whole school unit but this time
they are celebrating the 2014 World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup is a football tournament held for all qualifying teams every four years and occupies a
different country each year. This year all qualifying teams convened in Brazil to celebrate football and unity.
In IPC or IMYC schools all around the world students and teachers participated in a similar Entry Point on the 2nd
of June 2014. At Beacon Academy, Mr Tom led a whole school assembly where information about the World Cup
was imparted to all the students. Then Ms Megan and Mr Richard assisted in choosing the countries for Beacon
Academy’s very own student World Cup.
Mr Tom said that there would be a staff football game and the teams would be the four Houses. Then, each
House went to their House rooms and worked on preparing themselves to be fans and support their house.
After almost three periods of preparation, the football stadiums was a sea of red, green, yellow, and blue and the
teachers were encouraged by this support and continued to play well and score goals which filled the field with
the sound of Houses’ cheers.
At the end of the FIFA World Cup Entry Point all the teachers were tired, hot, but had fun. The situation was
similar with the students as they cheered for the teachers that played wonderfully after the tournament ended.
The results read that Fire had won the tournament with 400 house points. The day ended with all Beacon
Academy’s students excited for the World Cup unit.
We would like to commend all the teachers, especially Mr Tom, for preparing such a wonderful Entry Point for us
and playing football in the scorching sun.
