Read, research, and record with IRP
Yuvika Akar, Year 6
The Middle School students had to do a research project
th
that was displayed on the 27 of June 2014. The individual
research project lasted the whole academic year and took a
lot of effort in order to accomplish it.
It started with thinking about a guiding question that would
soon lead to the project. Some examples of the projects
are: anti-bullying, safety, global issues, animal awareness
and many more.

Teachers were there to answer questions but the students
had to plan and create their schedule independently. They
were asked to write journal entries three times a week so
that the teachers could see their progress and reflection.
Students had to research on their topic by managing their
own time wisely. After research came the project. Students
had to create their project whether it was to create a model,
write a book, or host a fundraiser and many more. As the
end of the year came closer, students had to start writing
their reports about what they had done the whole year.
Students had to also start working on their presentation
boards to be displayed at the IRP expo.

This project taught the Middle School students about
responsibility and academic writing. Other Beacon
Academy personal goals, such as thoughtfulness and
communication, are just a few examples evident through
their project. This project made the students more efficient
in managing time and resilient in making several attempts
to improve. They also learned about how to use APA
citations since they had to cite their research.
Students put in a lot of effort and hard work into this project
which is very much appreciated.
