What is Customer Service?
As I look for the meaning of Customer Service on the internet, here’s what I found. “Customer service is
the assistance and advice provided by a company to those who buy or use its products or services.” But
for me, based on my years of experience in customer service, I define it as, “Customer service is the
process of ensuring customer satisfaction. Customer service takes place while performing transactions
for customers who are interested to buy a product or customers who need technical assistance.
Customer service can take the form of an in-person interaction, a phone call, or by other means.”
Customer service is more than just assisting a customer. Let us always remember that we are dealing
with humans. Just like what other people said, “It is very easy to be human, but to be humane is not.”

In my definition of customer service, I highlight the term “customer satisfaction”. I’m sure, it something
that we all want.
Here are the six (6) common things that we all want to say that we are satisfied.
1. Listened and understood my request
Whether you are talking to a representative or to a friend, you always want the person
that to listen and understand you because if they did not, you may need to repeat what
you said (which is kind of annoying) or the conversation won’t progress. You will choose
to shut your mouth because you will feel like you are talking to the wrong person.
So, when someone is talking to you, listen actively and understand him or her. There is
always a meaning behind the words that they are using. Don’t forget to listen to their
tone of voice as well to understand their emotion at that moment. Display this behavior
by acknowledging what s/he said.
2. Had knowledge with my concern
There is no greater feeling than to have someone who can relate to what you are talking
about when you want to share something. So this one is very important. Display this
behavior by sharing what you know about what s/he said.
