BonCap dental benefits focus on preventative care

The BonCap dental benefits focus on preventative care and cover one dental check-up per beneficiary , per year , at your Network dentist .
DENIS Dental Network provider The BonCap dental benefit is only payable if you visit a dental practice that is part of the DENIS Dental Network . To find your nearest provider go to the DENIS website ( www . denis . co . za ) and click on the ‘ Find a Network Provider ’ tab to search for a dentist by suburb , or phone the DENIS contact centre on 0860 336 346 . Before you make a dental appointment , confirm that the practice is still part of the DENIS Dental Network .
Routine dental visit once a year An annual dental visit may allow your dentist to track the early signs of gum disease and early treatment will prevent it from getting worse . The BonCap dental benefits allow the following dental treatments once a year :
• Scaling and polishing – this is professional dental cleaning which might be done by an oral hygienist at the Network practice
• Four intraoral X-rays per beneficiary , per year , taken by your Network dentist . These are oral X-rays to check for any cavities in your teeth or problems with your gums
• Cavities ( holes ) in your teeth may be fixed with fillings . There is a limit of four fillings per beneficiary per year . Since fillings should last a number of years , the benefit is paid once per tooth in a two-year period
• If a tooth is too damaged to be fixed with a filling , your dentist might decide that it needs to be extracted ( pulled out )
• Extractions or the removal of teeth are covered , where necessary
• In cases where your child ’ s milk teeth show severe decay , the dentist might need to amputate the pulp , i . e ., pulpotomy
Preventative treatment for children Treatment like fluoride and fissure sealants for children is an easy and effective way of preventing tooth decay . The BonCap dental benefits allow the following preventative treatment for beneficiaries younger than 16 :
• Fluoride treatments – one treatment per year ( for children from the age of 5 )
• Fissure sealants – once per tooth every three years
Emergency consultation The BonCap dental benefits allow for one emergency consultation , per beneficiary , per year , for a dental emergency like severe pain and sepsis . During this visit the Network dentist might need to do a pulpectomy or pulp removal for the relief of acute pain .
