A: Grew up listening to Chante Savage, Whitney Houston, Miriam Makeba because I’d go everywhere with my mother - NOT my choice of music then, but the best thing to happen to me. I was too young to understand what the content was about but the melodies were catchy, and very entertaining for my ears. My grandfather would literally preach about communication everyday – coz I just couldn’t get it right, I was very shy and soft spoken…THEN lol. I’d rather write a letter to them telling them how I felt if something bothered me. High School, I had the greatest English teachers. Literature, Poetry played a great role in grooming me as I have now found my way of delivering my Poetry, creative writing, my thoughts through music.
4. How do you feel about online stores? Do you think online music will play a large part in where the industry heads in the future?
The business aspect, yes I’m very excited about how anyone from in their comfort zone can literally log onto the net and purchase music on different sights… this leads to more exposure for the dj, producer, singer, songwriter… as the music will be available to every continent. YET, I’m still that girl that is big on collecting CDs, listening to vinyls, that’s where I find my comfort. The only way my family can understand
that I’m a musician on the move is by bringing home a CD they can hold on to.
5. Do you ever experience writer's block? I imagine this would be particularly annoying if you were in a collaboration situation. If you do, what do you do to get over it?
Songwriters know…or should know to NOT force creativity. Writers block – No, I don’t experience such coz there’s so much to write about hahaha –we live in Africa c’mon now. You should be able to hear if an instrumental is sad or joyful –THAT’S the trick. Pick up the emotions on the song… and watch the pen flow.
6. You write all of your own music; where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the process?
I read a lot, zoom into life with a different mind – that gives me lyrical content. There’s so much happening around us, within us, among ourselves, I take advantage of that… coz somehow, somewhere – I’m sharing someone’s thoughts. Hence you have fans relating to songs because of the story/lyrics behind it.
