AYOBA MUSIC MAG March 2013 | Page 26

7.What sorts of things have you done to improve your song writing since then?

I listen to a lot of Sade, Jill Scott, Chrisette, Zama Jobe, Kem, Alicia key, Julie McKnight, Monique Bingham, Zonke & Lulu Dikana – brilliant song writers. I collect poetry books and steal a few others from my grandfather’s collection. Reading expands the mind and improves ones vocabulary. I love the Thesaurus & appreciate Shakespeare too.

8. What is your musical background? Do you have a musical family or did you just fall into song writing all on your own?

My great grandfather from my grandma’s side of the family is filled with musicians – I’m that kid in the family, doing music “The Odd One” I celebrate that despite the judgement because it’s a God given talent I will not deny nor will I apologise for embracing music, especially after music chose me & other talented musicians to be its ambassadors lol.

9. For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words.

Sultry, Authentic, Soulful, Charismatic, Universal

10. So, what’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing/singing etc?
