The Royal Photographic Society not only has a
new President, a new Council and a new
website; it also has a new look Multimedia
Distinctions Panel to assess AV submissions.
The last three years have seen a great deal of
change as the old AV panel metamorphosed
into the Multimedia and Narrative panel and
brought with it new distinction standards.
The panel for 2014/15 consists of Keith
Brown FRPS (deputy Chair) and Richard Brown
FRPS both of whom you can hear from overleaf,
together with Graham Sergeant FRPS and Olivio
Argenti FRPS. As the new Multimedia Panel
Chair I am delighted to have such a wealth of experience on board.
The Multimedia category recognises electronically delivered media content
which can include still images, video, audio, graphics and text, and the
integration of two or more of these media within an application. It encompasses
Audio Visual, moving image and multimedia submissions. So…..a broad
church for a wide variety of enthusiasts!
Having got the ball rolling what we would like to do now is encourage people
to put in for a Royal Photographic Society distinction. Why? Because putting
your AV's in for assessment and succeeding at LRPS, ARPS or FRPS level is
a considerable achievement that is recognised around the world. Of course you
do not need to put in for a distinction to become a good AV practitioner, but the
evidence shows that if you do the whole process is likely to lead to huge
improvements in your work. Many people have already been awarded their
distinctions for AVs and you can see these on the RPS YouTube channel:
