A First for Bakewell

It is November 1st and yet there are still some Halloween and early bonfire
parties tonight. These were competing for an excellent night out at Bakewell
Town Hall. 'The Best of British', showing sequences from the top AV workers
in the country, had been organised by Kate Brown and Bakewell and Eyam
Deanery Mothers' Union. This was arranged to raise funds for families all
over the world. It is to be used for literacy and numeracy programmes to help
them cope with buying goods and running their homes.
Kate produced an introductory sequence so that the audience were aware
of their goals. A raffle was organised and her husband Keith and friend
Richard Brown were the projection team. Being a Mothers' Union event, the
refreshments were outstanding with delicious home made cakes at the
interval. Even Kate's sons, Sam and Alex, were on hand to guide us to the
correct room and to sell Nanny Brown's (Keith's mum) Christmas
decorations. It was a super evening enjoyed by all.
