AV News 193 - August 2013
Edgar Gibbs FRPS MPAGB AV-AFIAP
Edgar, a retired Chartered Civil Engineer living in
Cardiff, is currently a member of the Royal
Photographic Society (RPS) Audio Visual (AV) Group
Committee and the Committee's representative on the
RPS Advisory Board, and member of the South Wales
RPS AV Group of which he was Organiser, with his
wife Linda, for 10 years. He also served for four years
on the organising Committee of the RPS International
AV Festival.
As a member of Gwynfa Camera Club, just north of
Cardiff, it was there that he saw his first AV show back
in the early 1980s. Taken with the use of light and
images blending together with a soundtrack, Edgar and Linda soon started
developing their AV skills, and started to achieve acceptances and awards at
National and International AV Festivals. Together with Linda, Edgar is a regular
speaker on the AV lecture circuit both in Wales and England.
As well as holding a Fellowship in AV from the RPS, for some years Edgar was
a member of the Panel which receives and considers submissions for distinction
awards in AV from the RPS. In October 2012 Edgar was awarded a Master in AV
from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), and is on the PAGB
approved AV Judges List. Additionally, he has successfully gained a distinction
(Artiste) from the International Federation of Photographic Art, also in AV.
Edgar strongly believes that both the images and sound are of equal
importance and must be of the best quality. He considers that an AV sequence
is not just about individual images but harmonising them with each other and
the soundtrack. Edgar is looking forward to judging the Great Northern, with
Keith and Kate Brown.
Kate Brown LRPS DPAGB
Kate's connection with photography began as a small
child when she was occasionally allowed to use her
dad's 35mm camera. She acquired her first SLR in her
early twenties and taught herself to use it, but never
found time to join a camera club. After meeting Keith
and being introduced to the photographic society world,
she has enjoyed learning how to make better use of
her camera, and has also started to produce her own
AV's. She made the conversion to digital seven years
ago and burnt out her digital SLR in the process of
gaining her DPAGB in AV and an LRPS in stills. A love
of music made the move into AV inevitable.
She and Keith really enjoy working together on
making and presenting AV's, and are looking forward
to judging with Edgar. We are particularly glad to welcome Kate who was
to have judged last year, but had to withdraw due to health problems.
