AV News 193 - August 2013 Delegates can expect an excellent choice of food served in the Rushcliffe Restaurant, full English breakfast (self service), buffet lunch and three course served evening dinner. Socialising is very important at any AV event and the warm friendly bars (6.00pm until Midnight) will encourage you to chat late into the night. The air-conditioned Charnwood lecture theatre where the formal judging will take place is an excellent hall of significant size and height, allowing unimpeded viewing of sequences with ample audience space. The 10 foot minimum screen width, HD projector and top quality sound equipment will ensure an experience not to forget. This venue, with the accommodation, meals, bars and projection facilities all on one convenient site should guarantee to provide that 'Grand National' experience. 2013 Jury Members Keith Leedham FRPS EFIAP FIPF (Chairman of the panel) The National AV Championships was the first AV competition that I ever attended and since then I think that I have been at every one. In 1995 I was one of the judges & in 2003 I was the chairman of the judges. In 1991 I came second & in 2001 & 2007 I was the overall winner. So to say that I have a soft spot for The Nationals is putting it mildly. Having been asked to judge it again is a great honour even though it obviously stops me from entering. I think that having Suzanne Gregory and Robert Albright as fellow judge's makes an interesting mix and I don't think that us or anybody else will have any idea what type of sequence we will favour. I have no bias towards any one type of sequence but I appreciate good sound, good photography, together with a good script and production so not much to ask for. I also like to become involved in the sequence in some way. Although judging is not as relaxing a being a member of the audience I know that I will enjoy it. Robert Albright FRPS I started taking photography seriously in 1977 and signed up for the photography course at the local Technical College. I went to evening classes to learn the history, theory (light and optics) and practice (black and white printing) of photography. In 1982 a friend introduced me to the joys and frustrations of AV production leading eventually in 2002 to a Fellowship of The RPS. I have judged many AV events including The RPS International AV Championships, the Great Northern Festival, the Geoffrey Round International, the Irish, Northern Ireland and Australian National Championships. I was Chairman of The RPS Audio Visual Distinctions Panel 2006-2010 and a member of the working group which redesigned the requirements for moving image media. In 2009 I won the Gold Medal at The UK National AV Championships and in 2010 First Prize at The European Cup (Flanders International AV Festival). I am currently a Council Member and Trustee of The Royal Photographic Society and a member of the PAGB Executive. Suzanne Gregory ARPS DPAGB I was inspired to make AVs after watching Sir George Pollock 'perform' his 'Triptych' This was over twenty years ago, and I've been making AV sequences ever since. I've had success at National and International level, and I've judged at all levels from club competitions to the National Championships and Geoffrey Round International competition. Page 37
