AV News 193 - August 2013
The festival had on loan a super new
instrument - ‘Spark Dfuser’ - for
handling the outputs of two
independent computers.
This drastically simplified the
organisation of the gala projection. We
can now dissolve two DVI or HDMI
outputs of computers; just like we did
by fading in and out two images with
two slide projectors.
And it is unbelievably small. The command unit has
one handling button: turning this button from left to
right will fade out computer A (say the sequences)
and fade in computer B (say e.g. inter-images
announcing the title, portrait of the author and image
of the next sequence). Signal B could equally well be
a DVD player with video sequences. All the DVI/HDMI
signals are accepted by and handled in the controller.
There is one condition for setting up
the system: one has to use
professional quality connection cables
(the thick ones and expensive ones)
otherwise quality of the images may
deteriorate (noise). The complete
system allowed us to have one
continuous projection of the sequences
and the announcements.
A last remark: the system does not
intervene in the image size. That
depends on how the exe of the
sequence was made. All in all, a most wonderful object. Every projection team
will love it. But you'll need a good budget.
So what will the future bring? The 4th Grand Prix Liliane Dorikens will be
held on 1st to 3rd May 2015 and will run under the name of International AV
Festival Ghent. Jury projections on Friday and Saturday, Gala and prize
giving on the Sunday. FIAP and National Patronage will be applied for. Rules
and regulations will conform to standard international traditions
We have found a much better location in the centre of Ghent, close to all
hotels and eating-places. It will be run in cooperation with the 100 year old
camera club Royal Photographic Society Lux Nova. We do hope we can
convince our UK friends to enter the competition and to attend the festival.
More details will be on www.avnews.org.uk when available.
Maurice will be attending the NAVC Championships in September, along
with the owner of the ‘Spark Dfuser’ instrument. Eds
