AV News 193 - August 2013
It would take too long to comment on the other works. Since most of you
probably haven't seen many of them, such comments would be of very little
interest. Not that they were of less quality, on the contrary, otherwise they
wouldn't have reached the final 25.
We had 72 visitors for the festival. Not a huge crowd of course. But well
within the number one can expect in Belgium to attend an AV projection. The
times of a large audience of 200 spectators is long gone. As Jacques Van de
Weerdt said in these columns: we are the last survivors of a dying artistic
application of pure photography. The membership of DCB is already restricted
to Flanders, due to the language problems, and has come down from
approximately 150 to currently just above 50.
The number of prizes was limited. One
cannot have 20 prizes if the festival has
only 25 sequences accepted. Next time
there may be more if we go for FIAP
Patronage. We will continue to have a
special prize for the best Belgian entrant,
hoping this will increase the quality of the
Belgian sequences. Indeed a large
number of submitted Belgian entries
were below par of an
international festival. No wonder since most of them never entered an
international competition.
Steffen Richter, the man behind
m.objects sponsored the event with
the first prize: a voucher for a full
version of m.objects creative (value
€400). A very complete software
capable of handling all conventional
productions.
From now on the main prize of the
competition is a small (11cm) bronze
sculpture (shown above & on Page
12) representing the
cooperation between people and an example for all AV enthusiasts.
Our programme booklet contains a picture and the abstract of every
accepted sequence. Foreign languages are printed as received and also
translated into Dutch. This tradition
started with the Flanders Image Festivals
(FIF). No festival is complete unless one
of the most well known European AV
people is present: Willem Van den Berg
from Holland came to see what we had
to offer. At least the beer got his approval.
Thank you Willem for coming. Hope to
see you next time.
