About the Finnish AV Scene
Juha Tiihonen
'AV-evening' meets every second month. We are part of Helsinki Camera Club
(in Finnish Kameraseura, http://www.kameraseura.fi/english/). With over
1300 members we are the largest photo club in Finland.
A typical AV-Evening consists of attendees' Sequences, a real or 'remote'
visitor and ample time for coffee, tea and juice so that we have time for chatting.
Sometimes there is an additional presentation by a club member about an
interesting technique or a questions-and-answers session. We do not have any
competitions. Typically, there are 2-5 new or further developed attendee's
Sequences. We have developed a friendly atmosphere with constructive
criticism. Our record is about 30 attendees, but typically we are about 12-18.
We are not aware of any other AV-group in Finland and therefore we are
relatively isolated. To overcome this, I developed the concept of a 'remote
visitor'. A number of remote visitor's Sequences are shown. We discuss after
each and if I know something about the Sequence or at least about the author
in advance, I tell about it. Here the 'Making of' stories in AV News (and past
issues of AV World) are invaluable! AV World contained interviews with
prominent authors - they are a good source, too. Previous remote visitors have
include names like Peter Coles, Maureen and Robert Albright, Erhard
Hobrecker, Johan Werbrouck, Eddie Spence, Valerie Rawlins, Ricardo Zarate
and Mari ۈ
