AV News 182 - November 2010
Friday evening was their usual club meeting and I had been given a 45
minute slot in the programme.
After about 90
minutes
we
called a halt
although many
members would
have liked to
enjoy more of
the AVs that I
had
brought
along.
I showed and spoke about some of the best South African productions as well
as some with a Continental flavour from the recent 321 Challenge and some
collected during my visit to the UK earlier this year.
Saturday was spent doing a workshop. We started by loading Audacity and
the evaluation version of PTE on everyone's laptop or computer (yes, they
have computers in these backwoods and a very good digital projector too). I
did not feel confident enough about the new sound editing features of PTE to
use them but I did tell the class that everything can now be done in the one
program.
Step by step, they imported their
own 10 images that they had been
asked to bring and played with
transitions, timing and basic
animation. I lead them by building
my own AV from 'scratch' on a
computer linked to the projector.
After all the students had a 'playable' AV we moved on to the music. Each
one had a piece to use and we used Audacity for basic editing before
importing into PTE.
All the students ended the day with a finished executable - achieved
through their enthusiasm and the user-friendliness of PTE. They have
promised to send their efforts to me later this year for comments and are
determined to enter the 3rd MFFC AV salon ne YX\
