A Day at WAVES
Tony Scammels
At the August meeting of WAVES the occasion was honoured by the
attendance of Eddy Lane, the current President of the Western Counties
Photographic Federation and his wife Pam, both AFIAP ARPS DPAGB, to join in
the activities during one of the group's infamous workshops where the
members in groups, construct an AV in a day from supplied images, and also
to present some of their work.
The members in attendance arranged themselves in six groups having
brought their laptops, recording equipment and cables. In WAVES there is a
range of talent and experience, and an eye was kept as the groups formed
to ensure a mix of experience quickly assembled. There was plenty of help
on hand if required.
The same sixty images and
a selection of music were then
supplied to each group with the
challenge to construct a
sequence consisting of a free
choice of variety and number
of images, music and voice
over lasting four minutes.
Laptops came to life, recording
equipment was assembled
and writing pads prepared as
members rallied to the fray.
Nervous laughter rose and fell
as themes were changed and developed.
The venue soon became a hive of activity as the participants viewed the
images, then collectively agreed a theme for the sequence. It was interesting
to observe the various talents that emerged and inhibitions forgotten as
members assisted each other with aspects with which they were unfamiliar.
Everything is easy if you know how to do it.
Some groups were so
enthralled that they worked all
through the lunch break but by
the afternoon tea-break, most
of the six sequences had been
completed, though there were
a couple of groups who were
still finishing off.
