One can go on giving so many examples of people who have changed
so many lives. We all look upto these idols in some way or the other.
Parents from all over the world made us look upon the idols by aspiring
us to become next Albert Einstein, to be the next Andy Warhol, next Tim
Burton. Now that we know the idols we have been preaching are Autistic
so we should not have a goal to become like them? Should we be still
seeing them with the same hope of becoming like them one day? Should
we stop dreaming to become like them just because they are Autistic?
The question is what if we are wrong? What if we are using wrong
methods to quantify the intelligence and abilities of an Autistic? They
are not less than anyone, but different. If we allow the world to set
expectations with these Autistics, then they might learn in time an stop
there but they will never be able to expand their horizon. “Maybe all
of them are much capable than we know and maybe they just
don’t understand how to tell us or we haven’t really learned how
to listen.”
It’s time to actually stop being a typical and take a step towards being
a different. It’s time to take a stand against your own misconceptions
and broaden your mind to see a person behind the label instead of
judging someone based on what their medical report says.
If we are not taking a higher road towards being there for someone
who needs us but are unexpressive to say, if not so then “Aren’t we
the one who are abnormal calling normal people Autistic?”
