Autism Research Report Autism Research Project Final | Page 21

The National Autistic Society came up with their five- year strategy which are all designed to make the positive impact on the lives of over 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families and friends. They’ll be starting from excellence in their schools and 80 services. They are the one’s who started the first autism-specific school in the world with first autism- specific residential area. Over that they are acting as trusted partners to autistic people, families and friends by passing on the knowledge they have gained in 50 years of practice. They advice people for the navigation needed at key stages of life. By sharing their knowledge through training, consultancy, conferences and expanding their Autism Accreditation scheme they hope to help as many employers and employability specialists. Their aim is n ot just to tell people what Autism is but to make them understand what it is to be Autistic in our society. They are doing as much as they can to push governmental policies at local and national level to include the real understanding of impact on autistics. There is a need for organisations like The National Autistic society and many more schools, volunteer groups, other societies all over the world because people have way too many misconceptions that shouldn’t exist. Autism is generally confused with Mental Retardation but there is a big difference in the two. Most people with mental retardation don’t even show a prevailing skill development while in case of Autism individuals show uneven skill development with deficits in certain areas majorly in the inability to communicate. Although Mental retardation can be something that can be a major lasting defect neurologically and might not be treatable but Autism is somewhat treatable, as studies show that people with autism improve significantly with proper instructions. Many individuals with Autism eventually becomes more responsive towards the world around them. With trained teachers, using specially structured programs have helped autistic individuals learn how to function at home and in the community which nearly helps them to lead normal lives. The theory I am proposing revolves around believing that we are Autistic because somewhere or the other we all cater to one or more symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Toiling things upside down I wanted my research show the similarities in between us as humans and creating a relatable argument for the readers to actually feel how similar we are as humans without letting our brains come in way of manipulating us to differentiate between different kinds of people behind the labels we as humans have given them. According to the factors and symptoms from the data collected as a part of my research I want reader to feel the severity of misconceptions created and read forward to feel that “We all are Autistic at different levels”. 18
