Did You Know: Team Tennis
Anderson ends up 4th in
district and makes it to
the Area Tournament
Teams from AISD’s two
districts, 14-6A & 26-5A,
recently competed in the
District Team Tennis
Tournament. However,
do you know how a team
tennis tournament
operates? There are 3 sets
of boys and 3 sets of girls
doubles teams, 1 mixed
double team, 6 boy single
players and 6 girl single
players.
Game, Set, Match
First you have to win
games. The first team to
wins 6 games wins a set
but you have to win by
two. So the final count can
be 7-5, 8-6, etc….
You have to win 2 out of 3
sets in order to win a
match which in turn gives
you 1 point.
The team tennis
tournament starts with the
boys and girls doubles
teams, then the mixed
double team, and finally
the singles. Once you hit
10 points then your school
has won and you move on
to the next round. Time is
of the essence because if
you are tied 9-9 then next
match winner will win it
for your school.
Competition is pretty
intense and it’s easy to
see why tennis the # 5
sport in the world.
14-6A & 26-5A District Team Tennis
LBJ Defeats Bastrop
to advance to the
Area Team Tennis
Tournament.
For AISD’s 6A district it
came down to four teams:
Anderson, Bowie, Lake
Travis and Westlake.
During the semifinals,
Westlake beat Anderson
and advanced to the
championship to face
Lake Travis who defeated
Bowie. Anderson and
Bowie faced off for third
place with Bowie winning.
All four teams advanced
to the Area Tournament.
For the 5A district, the
four remaining teams
were Bastrop, LBJ,
McCallum, and Travis.
Bastrop and McCallum
battled for a spot in the
championship with
Bastrop winning out. LBJ
defeated Travis to set up
the championship. In the
end LBJ won the District
Team Tennis Tournament
and all four teams also
advanced to the Area
Tournament.
