Satan, The Opposer: Demon of Wrath
Quite often, influenced by the way society has become, we are lead to consider how we are 'hard done by' or how others are doing us wrong and this quickly turns into anger. When Lucifer became Satan, he became angry at being thrown out of the heavens and his thoughts and actions became irrational and extreme. This is what happens to us when we become resentful things that happen to us and this anger, in turn, grows into something that is all consuming and irrational. We begin to dwell on negativity around us and we are then lead to respond irrationally to situations and intimidate those around us – enhancing the cycle with others. Overall, anger is not a nice thing to deal with, and can also manifest as physical altercations, such as abuse.
Leviathan, gate keeper to Hell: Demon of Envy
Leviathan, the face of envy represents the stage where Satan continues to desire that which he does not have and allows himself to be self consumed by these thoughts. This is a common quality among humans. Quite often we catch ourselves focusing on material gain and comparing ourselves to one another.
This sin prevents spiritual growth as it shifts our focus to the material, rather than the ethereal, and prevents us from acknowledging what we actually do have. This demon is similar to greed, and often they go hand in hand, as we fail to acknowledge that which is important and what we can and can not control. Much of our focus is directed to that which others are achieving and have, neglecting to acknowledge our own feats.
Beelzebub, Lord of the flies: Demon of Gluttony
Gluttony looks specifically at what we consume. It not only look at the quantity, however (which is also covered with greed), but also the quality. In today's society, many people are affected by gluttony, which is translated into the rise of obesity and diet and poor exercise related illnesses. Unfortunately, this sin is also perpetuated, by the fact that many people don't know what is good or bad for them, with the sin of greed being the driving force behind what is taught to the population (those selling are driven by greed and promote for their own gain rather than what is best). It is very easy to be overcome by gluttony, especially when that which is not good for you, tastes and feels so good (as it's made that way!)
