Michael was the living master and steward of the Samvahan tradition as passed on from his teacher , Dr . Ram K . Bhosle . Michael sadly passed away on 25th March 2021 .
Michael was an extraordinary healer , teacher , and friend , dedicated husband to Megan and loving father to Jai . Michael has had an impact on my own life and the lives of many - his global teaching spanned four continents . Michael ' s origins were in Colorado U . S . A where his family of origin resides . He made Australia his home in the mid-nineties where we first met after he had spent several years in India as an apprentice with Dr Ram K . Bhosle . He joined ATMS in 1997 as a remedial massage practitioner . His clinics were at Bondi Junction , and before that at Double Bay , Sydney .
Michael ' s Samvahan journey was fortuitous . The meaning of Samvahan is ' the vehicle that brings balance '. It is a gentle massagelike treatment that physically amplifies the internal vibrations evoking healing and a perspective for living . Samvahan was practised for millennia in ancient India . As a younger man in his mid-thirties , Michael spent several years in India studying Ayurveda and other healing arts . Having found Dr Ram K . Bhosle in Mumbai , Michael became besotted with his style of treatment and how many patients were helped with it . Dr Ram himself had a humble beginning as an orphan . Through his own perseverance he was able to study in Europe , master several languages , and physical therapies . Dr Ram K . Bhosle was known to be a physician to Mahatma Gandi and Jawaharal Nehru amongst other dignitaries of that time .
Having directly experienced Michael ’ s clinical work in 1997 I invited Michael to teach a Samvahan vibrational massage course at the School of Integrated Body Therapy on the Central Coast of NSW . With the blessing of Dr Ram ( 1918-2005 ) Michael with some trepidation offered the first Samvahan training outside of India . Students of that inaugural course remain members of ATMS and integrate Samvahan practice into their bodywork . From this humble beginning , Michael went on to teach Samvahan in many countries such as France , Austria , Switzerland , Belgium , the USA , and India . Samvahan practitioners can now be found globally practising this ancient healing art and can be located on www . samvahan . com . Excerpts from ' Hand that Heals ', a biographical sketch of Dr Ram K Bhosle ' s life authored by Michael can be found on the same website .
Michael ’ s sessions and classes were often powerful and life-changing . He will be greatly missed and his teachings will continue to be treasured by many .
On behalf of ATMS we extend our sympathy to Megan , Jai , and their families .

Vitalism

The concept of vitalism has existed for centuries and has evolved in many different schools of thought . According to classical vitalists , living organisms are fundamentally different from non-living entities because they possess a force or energy beyond their physical properties . The aim of this special issue is to present current thinking about vitalism in natural medicine practice .
