ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION PACKET All students wishing to participate on a sports team must submit a complete Athletic Participation Packet before the athlete ’ s first sport of the year . The packet must be submitted in its entirety , partial packets will not be accepted and will be returned to the student / parent . It is advisable for parents to submit packets in person instead of sending them to school with their students to ensure the packet is accepted as complete .
A complete packet includes the Athletics Medical Form , certificates for Concussion in Sports training ( completed by at least one parent ) and Concussion for Students training ( per athlete ), and the pay-to-play fee . The athletics medical form must be submitted each year , with a physician ’ s signature dated on or after July 1 st of each current school year .
MANDATORY MEETINGS At the beginning of each season , coaches will hold a mandatory meeting . It is expected that each athlete will attend the meeting with at least one parent . When possible , multiple meeting times or venues ( i . e ., virtual ) will be made available . These are mandatory meetings and parents are expected to make every effort to adjust their schedules to attend the meeting .
PAY-TO-PLAY Cornerstone has adopted a pay-to-play structure to fund our athletics department . This means the burden of paying for the athletics clubs and teams is the responsibility of the families of athletes and not the entire school body .
The School Board establishes the pay-to-play fee amount for each club and team . Typically , Varsity teams will have a higher pay-to-play fee than other non-varsity sports and clubs . Fees are determined based on the annual Athletic Budget and are established to cover all anticipated expenses for the year . The annual fee for an individual season is not necessarily based solely on the expenses of that particular sport or season .
Homeschool Partnership Program
Homeschool students may participate on sports teams , as defined in this handbook , through Cornerstone ’ s Homeschool Partnership Program ( HSP ). Families must first submit a family application for the HSP , an annual homeschool registration fee , and complete a New Family Interview ( when new to the school or as determined by the administration ). Once a family has applied for the HSP and been accepted , the athlete may submit a completed Athletic Participation Packet . The athlete ’ s placement on the team will be determined by available space per the policies in this handbook .
