Message from Kevin Subban “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair” Nelson Manela This quotation by our late great inspirational leader defines my work and what I do and how I do it. I believe in it and the way we do things as individuals in the Private Sector and Government Departments. There are policy makers and there are implementers and it is imperative that there is close collaboration between these two sectors. The 1st ASPC African Forum brings together speakers and delegates from both these sectors. The main focus of the Forum will be on how Governance, Leadership and Transformation impacts on High Performance for all our athletes. “Sport has the Power to Change the World” and I believe that we can use this Forum to do just that. Athletes from the African Continent have always achieved success on the World stage at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. This is despite many African Countries lacking resources but are still able to produce incredible results. This Forum is hoping to bring together expertise to share and collaborate with the various countries on the continent. The ASPC, as an association, has a wealth of knowledge and expertise from different High Performance Centres from around the World. Although there are a few High Performance Centres in Africa that are registered with the ASPC, I see this Forum as an opportunity to share knowledge and expertise to establish more High Performance Centres in Africa. Following the success of hosting the 10th ASPC Global Forum in 2017, the same partners have come together again to make this Forum another successful event. In this regard I thank SASCOC, the KwaZulu Natal Department of Sports and Recreation, eThekwini Municipality and Prime Human Performance Institute for all the support and I have no doubt that this will be another successful event. A special Thank You to local organising committee for the Forum who has been working for over a year to put together this Forum. Finally, a warm welcome to all speakers and delegates to Durban “The Warmest Place to Be”
