ASPC Update Special Edition: African Sport Forum | Page 12
Message from the MEC for Sport
and Recreation, Kwazulu-Natal
The Province of KwaZulu-Natal is looking forward to hosting the 1st ASPC African Sport Forum. Once
again, KwaZulu-Natal takes the lead in hosting another international sports conference. This comes after
hosting a successful 10th ASPC International Forum on Elite Sport in 2017.
The key purpose of the Forum is to bring sports leaders, administrators, coaches and athletes together
from throughout Africa to discuss best practices in administration and new innovations in the field of High
Performance. There is also the bigger impact of the conference i.e. economic development and capacity
building for the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
It’s an opportunity for all sports leaders, coaches and administrators throughout KwaZulu-Natal to
attend this high level conference. As a Province we want to ensure that our previously disadvantaged
sports practitioners are empowered and given the opportunities to excel at the highest of levels. More
experienced coaches allow us to develop more elite athletes.
This conference takes place during a very important moment in the history of South Africa when we
commemorate the centenary of our late struggle heroes, former President Nelson Mandela and Mama
Albertina Sisulu, who would have turned 100 this year had they lived today. We remain inspired by their
spirit of dedication and commitment to the fight for freedom for all South Africans.
We are proud to be partnering with the ASPC in hosting a Continental Forum in
Africa for the first time and we wish delegates all the best for their time with us.
