Asian Power Couples Amit Bhatia & Vanisha Mittal Bhatia Amit Bhatia is a British Indian businessman and philanthropist. He is Chairman of Hope Construction Materials the UK’s largest independent supplier of concrete, cement, aggregates and asphalts, employing over 800 people. Amit gradated from Cornell University, New York with a degree in Applied Economics & Management and began his career working at both Morgan Stanley in New York and Credit Suisse First Boston in London. In 2007 Bhatia bought a stake in Queens Park Rangers FC and currently serves as its Vice-Chairman as well as Chairman of QPR in the Community Trust. Amit married Vanisha Mittal in June 2004. Since 2004, she has been a Director at LNM Holdings (the holding company for the Mittal group), Arcelor Mittal, Mittal Steel and Temirtau JSC. She is a graduate of the European Business School, and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, where she studied Business, and South Asian Studies, respectively. Vineet & Rashmi Bhatia Vineet Bhatia is the multi-award winning chef and owner of the Michelin starred Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, located just off Kings Road, Chelsea. Born in India, Vineet studied at catering college in Bombay and went on to gain an economics degree in 1989. After receiving his chef training at Mumbai’s Oberoi Hotel, Vineet immigrated to England in 1992. In 1999, Vineet founded Zaika which in 2001 became the joint first Indian restaurant to win a Michelin star. He opened ‘Rasoi Vineet Bhatia’ in June 2004 with his wife, Rashmi and gained a Michelin Star in 2006. Vineet & Rashmi Bhatia Rashmi Bhatia is Managing Director at Vineet Bhatia Restaurants which includes Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, Urban Turban and several overseas restaurants. Born in Kashmir and brought up in Mumbai, Rashmi trained as a pharmacist and then did an MBA in marketing. When setting up Rasoi, Rashmi was involved in all aspects, from designing the interior to being on the restaurant floor. Ranjit & Baljinder Boparan Ranjit Singh Boparan is a British businessman, the founder and owner of 2 Sisters Food Group with his wife Baljinder Singh Boparan. Affectionately known as the “Chicken King” in the West Midlands, Ranjit left school aged 16 with few qualifications and started working in a butchers shop. He founded 2 Sisters Food Group in 1993 and the group employs over 24,000 people, with annual sales now exceeding £3 billion per annum. Baljinder Kaur Boparan is the co-owner of 2 Sisters. She is also a Trustee of UK-registered The Boparan Charitable Trust which works with young people under 18 who disadvantaged either through poverty, illness or disability. 8
