Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith & Sir Charles Bracewell-Smith
Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith is an Indian-born, UK-based businesswoman. She was a major
shareholder and former non-executive director of the English Premier League football club
Arsenal. Born Nina Kakkar, she is the daughter of an Indian diplomat. She married Sir Charles
Bracewell-Smith, 4th Baronet of Keighley in the County of Yorkshire in 1966. Sir Charles inherited
shares in Arsenal football club from his grandfather and transferred them to his wife. She was
made a non-executive director of Arsenal in 2005. Having resisted a takeover of the club by
Alisher Usmanov in 2007, Lady Nina eventually sold her Arsenal shares amounting to 15.9% of
club’s stake on 11th April 2011. On 1 March 2012, she was appointed Honorary Vice-President
of the Club. Sir Charles Bracewell-Smith is the founder of the Homestead Charitable Trust and
author of ‘The Song of the Saints’. He is a grandson of Bracewell Smith and succeeded to the
baronetcy after the death of his brother Guy Bracewell Smith in 1983.
