Guggenheim Museum Visit( 8 th Grade)
Upper School
While studying the time period of World War Two and the Holocaust, we( the 8th Graders) paid a visit to the Guggenheim museum, which was displaying L’ Art en Guère, an amazing exhibition of astonishing works of art done during World War Two. You would think that they were all somber and gray but, in fact, there were as many sad ones as cheerful and colorful ones. Some works, as always, were a bit bizarre, and you had to have a lot of imagination to be able to understand them fully, but they were interesting to admire and see. Some had even been done by real concentration camp prisoners. There were also a few statues, but not as many as there were paintings.
The most astonishing work of art was, in our opinion, La Fée Electricité, a painting done by Raoul Dufy, which was so huge that it covered an entire wall. Full of bright colors and detailed drawings of things ranging from Aristotle to the French flag, the canvas made a weird but immensely interesting work of art. If you looked closely, you could see that many men had been drawn with their name next to them. These included Benjamin Franklin, Mozart, and many more great minds. Another part of the exhibition, which displayed paintings done by concentration camp prisoners, was creatively decorated with sacks on the ceiling, giving the exhibition a somber atmosphere. A timeline with the key events of World War Two covered up two walls to give people an overall idea of what had happened during this time period, and when it had all occurred exactly. All in all, visiting this exhibition was absolutely worth it, as it enriched our minds with all the astonishing works of art we were able to see. They are bound to last throughout the ages.

The now former ASB students are ready for new beginnings.
Graduation Ceremony of the Class of 2013
On the 1st of June, all the grade 12 students gathered at the ASB to experience the closure of a part of their lives. All the family and friends of the graduates attended and the teachers who have helped them get where they are were also there. Sara Goiri, Miren López and Jorge García, from 9 th grade, made the evening more entertaining by playing the piano and flute while everyone was taking their place. The ceremony was opened by the 4 th and 5 th graders singing“ The American School of B i l b a o” f o l l o w e d by“ Po m p a n d C i r c u m s t a n c e”. When everyone was settled down, the speeches started. First came the director, Orlando Pola-Rivera, who addressed the graduates with an introductory discourse. After him Javier Hoyos, the father of the graduate Xabier Hoyos, went to the stage. When he finished, the two guest speakers, Angela Dundas and Iñigo Ongay addressed the class and, after that, Fernando Gruber addressed his fellow students with a speech that made them remember their best moments at school. After him, Mariana Curti, their Homeroom teacher, talked to the class and wished them the best for their future. The graduates were then called up one by one and given their diploma. The formal ceremony was now over. Everybody left the auditorium and went down to the playground in order to take some photographs and the graduates threw their hats in the air. Everybody stayed for a while after that, eating and talking, and the now ex-students thanked their t e a c h e r s, w h o wished them well. The now former ASB students are ready for new beginnings.
