All About The Club
The ISC Gavel Club functions under the ISC Toastmasters Club.
The Club maninly aims at improving speaking, listening and communication skills. At the same time, the club helps children in the age group: 9-18 hone their speaking skills, as well as increase self esteem, clarity and confidence.
We normally meet on alternate Saturdays at around 10:00am. The meetings normally last until 12:00 noon.
The club doesn't revolve just around speeches only. There are various fun activities that actually help hone skills in various fields. Also, our Mentors are always there for us, guiding us to becoming competent speakers.
Here are a few responses from some of the Guests, who have attended our meetings.
"It's a really fun place. You get to talk on all sorts of fun topics. The Round Robbin session is especially fun."
"I like the fact that you get to take on the roles of both speakers and evaluators. It helps develop our overall speaking skills."
"I've always felt that speeches are usually dull and boring. But this club has made me find my long latent love for speaking. I'm definitely going to join!"
"The Table Topics Session really tests a Gaveliers mettle for they have to frame impromptu speeches with less than 20 seconds to prepare."
"A few of my son's friends joined here when it first opened. I remember they used to be very nervous and shy. But I just dropped in to see another meeting and I was shocked to see those same children speaking with power and emotion. I truly believe this club has improved their speaking skills." - A Parent
The Club
Round Robbin Sessions
One of the many sessions in the Gavel Club meetings. A Round Robbin Session is generally a session where a person starts a story. After saying a few lines about the story, the next person uses their imagination to continue the story, adding their own plot twists and frills.
This session generally encourages creativity and impromptu thinking. This is important, because creativity is one of the essentials for framing a powerful speech.
Prepared Speech
These are the general speeches that are prepared and delivered on the basis of a Project's Guidelines. Projects are set goals that each Gavelier should strive to complete.
Evaluation Speech
For every prepared speech, there are evaluation speeches. Gaveliers take on the role of Judges and judge their assigned speaker on the basis of their project's guidelines. This helps them to improve their listening skills as well.
