The Eiffel Tower is 324 meters high and stands in the centre of Paris. Construction started in 1887 and finished in 1889. At the time it was the tallest building in the world. The tower has three levels for visitors of which the lowest two can be reached by stairs and the highest one only by elevator. The big park in front of the Eiffel Tower is a popular place to have a drink after dinner and enjoy the lightshow which is held every evening. The construction of the Arc du Triomph started in 1806 and only finished in 1835. This was because Napoleon had lost his power and there was no will or money to finish the building. The Arc du Triomph is a Triumph bow and situated on the Place de Charles de Gaulle. It was ment to carry triumphant patriotic messages to the people of France. One of the streets ending at the Arc du Triomph is the Champs Elysees. This famous shopping street is also the end of the Tour de France and the main point of the biggest military parade of Europe every year on the 14th of July. The day the French remember their revolution against Louis 16. Every important and well known shopping brand has a shop on the Champs Elysees, because it gives them respect. The construction of the Notre Dame was completed in 1345. It is a Catholic church and build in the French-Gothic style. The church was damaged during the French Revolution around 1790, but restored mostly into its old status in 1845. Another big renovation took place in 1991 to make the structure more durable and stronger to cope with all the tourists and gasses from the outside. The Louvre begun as a fortress in the 12th century, but since 1793 just after the revolution it became a museum. Nowadays it accompanies the needs of millions of tourists every year and hold some of the world most expensive and best pieces of art. The most respected work is the Mona Lisa from Leonardo da Vinci which attracts most people to come in. The Galerie de la Fayette was established in 1895 and expended in 1905 by some additional buildings. The earnings of all the Galeries, which include the ones abroad in New York, Berlin, Dubai and Beijing are one billion dollars. The Galerie is known for their large sets of brands and shops. Futhermore, the glass dome is very well known. Opinion The visit to the Sacre Coeur was very impressive. The long stairs towards it were a challenge, because it was very hot. We went into the Basilique which was very pretty from the inside. There were some musicians surrounding the church who created a sympathetic atmosphere. When we walked over to the artist square in Montmartre we were very surprised by the prices they asked for their products. Even though their work was brilliant. The night we went to the Moulin Rouge we first got something to eat in a cute little restaurant. There was a show about to start and people were standing in line to get into the theatre. The LED lighting was beautiful and created a nice atmosphere around the building.
