ART CHOWDER MAGAZINE
he annual Mardi Gras Krewe d’Alene is well known for it’s authentic cultural
celebration every February in Coeur d’Alene. A fundraiser for the Coeur d’Alene
Arts & Culture Alliance, this unique party blends so many elements of the arts: visu-
al, music, performance, culinary and a variety of other creative outlets.
The 4th annual Mardi Gras Krewe d’Alene is set for Saturday, February 16, 2019
from 5:30-10pm in the CDA Resort Plaza Shops. As you stroll through the “streets”
of New Orleans in this re-creation of the French Quarter, you’ll find samples of
delicious New Orleans-style fare from up to 10 local favorite restaurants that are
competing in a lively cook-off for chef’s choice and people’s choice awards. With
fun street entertainment throughout, there is so much to do!
Mardi Gras (which means fat Tuesday in French) is the last day of the Carnival cele-
bration beginning on Twelfth Night and culminating on the day before Ash Wednes-
day, the beginning of the Lenten season. Carnival is a time to eat, drink and be merry
before the rigorous fasting and sacrifice during Lent.
