Technique
Hoseok primarily specializes in
Popping, Boogaloo, and Hip Hop.
The timing of pops is crucial, and it
sometimes takes months or years to
perfect. Popping techniques also
take patience and dedication to train,
as you’re using muscles that you don’t
usually use in everyday life.
J-Hope does mainly leg, chest,
forearm and tricep pops.
You can see pops in a number
of BTS stages, but one notable
example which belongs to Hoseok
alone is his first “Hope on the Street” -
those smooth moves are actually pop-
ping drills.
Boogaloo is an umbrella term for a
lot of styles and techniques used in
freestyle. It is a style that demands
flexibility - physically and creatively.
The key is fluidity in motion
and transition.

J-Hope is exceptional at isolations and
Boogaloo rolls and actually specializes
in this style of dance.
Both these styles take years of con-
stant practice to be able to maintain
and improve due to the conditioning of
muscles and coordination.
Flow
Even though he doesn’t practice
contemporary dance, flow is still
essential for all dancers, especially
in freestyle. The ability to transition
between sets, moves, and techniques
smoothly is a must for any top dancer.
One of the integral points in boogaloo
is to maintain a steady flow,
and Hoseok makes beautiful
transitions in his freestyle.
He can not only isolate different
parts of his body smoothly to comple-
ment each other’s movement but also
