SUGA’s solo song “Seesaw”
discusses the ups and downs of a
relationship that is no longer bringing
the participants any joy. The relationship
is imbalanced, with each partner com-
peting for control. Eventually, some-
one needs to get off of the seesaw,
but neither partner wants to be the
one who ends things and risks being
seen as the bad guy. Therefore the
protagonist is stuck moving up and
down while begging to be let off. “Fake Love” provides a particu-
larly somber view on love. With reoc-
curring symbolisms such as bond-
age, masks, and hooded cloaks, it’s
clear this love is binding the narrator.
They are trapped and have lost sight
of who they truly are, becoming who
they think their partner wants to love
instead of showing their true self.
“We were tired of each other, and it’s like At first blush, this love may have
had potential, but now it is fading and
dying.
we’re both clenching on to the same
playing card
And if that’s the case, so what?”
Love is nuanced like this—from
the honeymoon phase to the sour
end, it’s all shades of grey. Sometimes,
instead of a monumental storybook
ending, it just fizzles out into nothing.
“In a dream that can’t come true
I raised a flower that couldn’t bloom.”
Despite this bleak
outlook on love, there
is a glimmer of hope at
the end of the tunnel.
Learning to truly love yourself is key to having successful and happy relationships.
“Where there is hope, there are always trials.”
As ARMY and BTS continue to grow together, there will inevitably be pain and
heartache, but together, they will trudge through these hardships and know that they
never walk alone.
