ARMY Magazine - Monthly Issues ARMY Magazine ISSUE NO.2 - DEC 2018 | Page 63
When the movie was first released,
many ARMY assumed
that much of the
footage
in
the
documentary would
be shared with the
YouTube video series of
the same name. They
were wrong, which
we are all thankful for,
but there seems to
be a distinct reason
for the difference. In
the YouTube series,
ARMYs are taken
behind the scenes
with long interviews
given by the members,
raw
and
painful
moments
shared,
reasoning
behind
behaviors
and
circumstances
explained,
and
connections
forged
or
strengthened.
All this is not to
say that “Burn the
Stage: The Movie”
wasn’t an emotional
rollercoaster
-
no
ARMY could sit through it without
experiencing both laughter and tears.
However, instead of focusing on
the pain, the injuries, the hardships
that BTS faced in their 2017 Wings
Tour, they kept the documentary
flowing
quickly,
leaving
the
impression that it was all no big
deal. It suggested that such things
were
ordinary,
commonplace,
for our boys. This, more than
anything, might have been the most
heartbreaking aspect of them all.
Furthermore, movie goers were
literally shown “Beyond the Scene”
with what the boys have to do
between each and every song they
perform live. The ice packs and the
physical strain balanced between
every number, among every member.
The movie also displays the contrast
of how they live on their own time
- jumping around like the adorable
goofballs they are by a pool, dancing
carelessly - and how they must
live when they are acting solely as
BTS - unable to freely walk outside
much of the time, as is evidenced
by how excited they were just to
be able to walk around the streets
of New York for an afternoon.
