It was of great importance to the architects that the centre has large shopfronts and high walkway canopies to bring elements of the outside in . All structures are hidden behind crisp white ceiling panels and broken up with linear bulkheads and strip lighting . Timber cladding adds warmth and brings relief to the steel columns and their recessed downpipes . The introduction of a timber material was important to neutralise darker tones and add a softer feel .
Visual Presence On both corners , standing proud , the centre ’ s ‘ bookends ’ open themselves up to the Hendrik Potgieter motorway . This is the first interaction with the building from the roadway and was important to set a visual tone . The scale and volume of the shopfronts draw attention and express the double volume colonnade with perforated aluminium flag posts . Square profile pavers were chosen for the walkways .
