Design Brief The initial brief was for the architects to design a senior living estate that would embody Auria Senior Living ’ s motto of “ this is not retirement , this is living .” This provided the architects with a unique opportunity to develop a new typology for senior living communities that would enhance
the daily experiences of residents through the design . The goal was to challenge the traditional institutional environment of retirement homes , which are typically not inviting spaces and generally not somewhere that people want to visit their elderly relatives . The aim was to challenge that notion by designing a new modern and luxurious approach to senior living , balancing functionality with a modern aesthetic appeal . By achieving this the senior living facility becomes a luxurious destination where friends and relatives would look forward to visiting residents . The brief was to design 102 independent living apartments including one , two and three bedroom layouts , as well as larger penthouse units .
The brief also included the design of a communal building , which could function as a clubhouse , incorporating a restaurant , coffee shop , concierge services , bar lounge , cinema and various administrative functions . Twenty Assisted Living Units are centrally accommodated above the communal building , with easy access to all facilities . A separate Wellness Center houses a gym and exercise rooms , Biokineticist and Physiotherapist services as well as a heated indoor swimming pool . The final component is The Care Centre which is divided into Frail Care for those with impaired mobility , and Memory Care , which caters for those with progressed dementia or Alzheimer ’ s .
In order to to achieve the density that would make the project feasible , the 102 apartments were then split into five different blocks , each with three storeys . The placement of the blocks was firstly influenced by the shape of the site and secondly by the need to provide views over the golf course or allow the units to have north facing living rooms , bedrooms and patios .
