The retail component retains a village feel and incorporates a number of rural and agricultural elements that speak to the original usage of the land. The centre encapsulates the story of Paarl- from the rich agricultural history to the old trades such as wagon making, ironmongery and stone masons. The development is set back from the road against a stunning backdrop of the Paarl mountains and nestles itself into its environment. Some vines have been retained along the boundary of Optenhorst Road, echoing the original use of the land. Three large existing trees were incorporated into the design and provide a sense of history and long standing permanence despite the new structures surrounding them. It’ s the attention to detail in incorporating these historical elements within the development that sets it apart. No expense was spared on establishing the landscaping on site, with carefully chosen planting, which includes herbs and fruit
